The Cushion, Redrawn

The cushion case is one of the oldest shapes a wristwatch has worn. The Tiziano keeps its softness and lets the line wander.

The form took hold in the early twentieth century: a square with its corners eased toward a circle. It has never left the vocabulary of watchmaking. Here it is shaped in 316L stainless steel, with one side swelling slightly more than the other. The polished edge carries the light around the case in one unbroken sweep.

Twelve Millimeters, Forty-Nine Grams

A dress watch is measured by how little it asks of the wrist. At 49 g, the Tiziano barely registers.

The case stands 12 mm high, and its rounded flanks let a shirt cuff slide over it. The 20 mm strap closes with a pin buckle, the traditional fastening of a dress watch, flat and quiet under a sleeve. From a morning meeting to a late dinner, you notice the hour, not the weight.

Seconds at Six

Before the sweeping center seconds hand, dress watches kept their seconds in a small dial of their own. The Tiziano keeps that tradition at six.

Numerals at 12, 3 and 9, drawn in a fluid hand. Fine lines radiating from a central oval to the edge. Two curved hands for the hours and minutes, left clear of the seconds below. A ringed seconds track, marked from 10 to 60. Navy print on the silver's ivory dial; dark print on the gold and rose tone dials.

Metal, Dial and Leather

Each Tiziano is a pairing, chosen the way a painter chooses a palette. Silver with midnight blue, gold tone with onyx black, rose gold tone with cognac brown.

The dial takes the tone of its case, so metal and face read as one color. The leather is grained, a fine pebbled surface that stays matte beside the polished steel. Tonal stitching follows both edges, and with wear the strap softens to the shape of one wrist.

Quartz, Kept Simple

Inside is a quartz movement. Set the time once, and it keeps it.

There is nothing to wind and nothing to reset after a month away. The small seconds hand steps once each second, a quiet sign it is running. A hardened mineral crystal covers the dial. The case is water-resistant to 30 m, or 3 ATM, enough for rain, washing your hands and the splash of an ordinary day.

Venice, Before the Crowds

Some cities are best seen early. Venice, at seven, belongs to the people who live there.

The vaporetto is half empty, and the lagoon still holds the grey of dawn. In a gallery, you stand close enough to see the brushwork on a canvas centuries old. Lunch is sarde in saor and a glass of white near the Rialto. The afternoon goes to a studio with tall windows, where a painter is mixing reds. Evening finds you on the Zattere as the light turns the color of old gold.
